Jinich attended Instituto Tecnológico Autónomo deMexico and earned a degree in political science before continuing her studies at Georgetown University, where she earned a master’s degree in Latin American studies. She had lived a little in politics before taking a step in her culinary career.

Her food career began when she moved to Texas with her husband. With nothing to do at home at the time, she began cooking Mexican dishes and conducting research on Mexican cuisine. Cooking for herself, she moved to teach her neighbors. Jinich soon joined Dallas Public Television and worked on the PBS series “New Tastes from Texas” with chef Stephan Pyles, as a production assistant.

After graduating with a master’s degree, she began working at the Inter-American Dialogue even though her head was in food. Pati soon started a blog about Mexican food and was later invited to invite TV producers to give talks about food on TV. Before that, she launched a live cooking series  Mexican Table  in 2007. On the program, Jinich prepared different Mexican courses on live television.

This led to the creation of her own culinary television show La table Mexicane de Pati which broadcasts on various platforms. The show airs in the United States on the Create TV and Asian Food channels. For Southeast Asia, it airs on Food Network. The show garnered a lot of recognition and accolades, including the James Beard Award, as well as an Emmy nomination.
